Christmas in August

I just wanted to update my readers about what has been going on in my life.  I decided I wanted my readers to get to know me better. It was hard to get to know me with some of my blog posts lately.  Besides being busy with work, I attended BlogHer last Friday and Saturday.  If you missed my BlogHer post, you can read it here.

I also finally bought a DSLR last week. So, I have been getting to know my camera and taking pictures and learning about the settings. I met some nice ladies from Nikon at BlogHer who gave me some valuable tips.

In the past month, I am documenting my food intake in My Fitness Pal and I am becoming aware of my eating habits.  I have been having a hard time losing weight for the past two years and realized it is my food intake!  Even though I exercise three times a week, the calories lost in the workout is gained from the calories in the foods I eat.  Basically, I am maintaining an equilibrium for my body.  Hence, why I can’t reduce my weight.

I joined Reach for Wellness program at work to track my exercise.  I have been exercising at least three times a week. I would like to increase my workouts but between working, blogging, seeing friends, spending time with Eddie, and my hobbies, it is hard to find some extra time.  For the past month, I have been researching new workout routines and exercises like spinning, pilates, zumba, and pole dancing.  Yes, there is a pole dancing workout in NYC and would be interesting to take .

I am following  Ellie Krieger’s book Small Changes, Big Results.  It’s a twelve week healthy eating, weight reduction program.  Although, I don’ follow it to a tee, I have been able to make some changes in my grocery shopping habits and being aware of what I am eating.  Ellie also has some recipes in the book that I have tried and her recipes do not disappoint. Even though her recipes are nutritious, they are also actually very good. Healthy eating does not mean bland food like I used to think.

My journey to good health has taken a lot of my time. I am cooking more,  researching new recipes, and reading new cookbooks. I have also found new food blogs in the process.

What else is going on with me?  My brother and cousin is attending a Stephen Colbert taping tomorrow and I will also join them. That’s pretty exciting since I have never been to a show taping before.

In my professional and personal life, I am also taking some nursing webinars and spiritual teleclasses as well.  As I am writing this blog post, I am listening to Sheri Rosenthal interview Catherine Just.  And I am reading books, lots of them. I am currently reading Deepak Chopra’s Ageless Body, Timeless Mind.  Stay tuned for a book review. This book is amazing.

I also have some new ideas to try for my blog and have a renewed excitement!   I  learned these blog re- designs from Blog Her.  (See, I did learn something, even though I only took one workshop).  And I have also decided to review products on my website and host more contests and giveaways.  If you would like to advertise on my blog, please feel free to contact me via my form.

So, that is it for me. Thanks for visiting and reading my blog.  Write me a comment from time to time.  I look forward to getting to know my readers.
