{be well}: August is Relaxation month
Finally, you can relax in August. August is the month for vacation and when families take their kids on vacation before school starts. You can lie back on the hammock and put your feet up. When the temperature rises, it’s a signal to drop heavy thinking and let the body take over. School’s out, so factor your kids into your plan: organize a multi-generational barbeque for the neighborhood. And what about that self-care you keep postponing? While your husband and kids are out in the ballpark, treat yourself to a spa day. I have had two self-care activities already in less than a week! Speaking of self-care, check out the self-care guest post I wrote on Chic Geek Designs last month.
Set an Intention
Relaxation is vital to my well-being, bringing balance to my life. Vacations restore my energy and peace of mind.
Practice: Being Silent
Even if it’s no more than half an hour, give yourself a period of silence everyday. No phone, no computer, no social media, no television, no radio, nobody calling you from the other side of the bathroom door. Inform everyone in your family, you are on a retreat. Use the time to pray or meditate, read something inspirational, write in your journal, daydream. What’s most important is to bathe in silence. Let it seep through your pores.
Project: Pitch a Meditation Tent
If you have a backyard or a porch, make yourself a little meditation hut. It could be a tent, a simple wooden platform with a frame roof draped in cloth, even just a beach umbrella. Furnish the space with a meditation mat or cushion, a small table with a candle, and perhaps a spiritual object. Use the space for your daily half-hour of silence or any other favorite practice.

Hi Anna, just thought I’d swing by to see how you are doing. I love the quote you’ve shared and the tips. Quiet time is so important, and I like the idea of a mediation tent! Wishing you a peaceful and relaxing August! Wini xo

Hi Anna,
Loved your post. Quiet time is so essential. We’re kindred spirits. Promoting health is my passion and I’m a nurse too.
Peace and be well, friend.
Thanks for stopping by, Jenny. A fellow nurse. So awesome!
I am glad you stopped by, Wini. It’s great to catch up with what you are doing. Looks like you are really busy reading all of those books and mags.
Love this quote!! I so need to figure out how to fit in more time to relax – it’s so hard! I like the idea of setting the intention and also being silent…that one’s hard for me :)!

Thanks Piper. I usually schedule in some me time on the weekends. I start with 15 minutes in the beginning and then when you get used to it, i.e. without feeling guilty, increase it to another increment of 15 minutes.
