5 Supplements for Great Skin
I am more conscious of my skin care regimen now than ever before, probably because I don’t want wrinkles! For those of you who spend a lot of money in dermatologist appointments, shots, creams, and pills, here are 5 must haves for your medicine chest.
Coenzyme Q 10 or otherwise known as CoQ 10: This is an antioxidant that protects skin from free radicals and help cell repair themselves. *Hint: take CoQ10 in the morning to help stimulate you. Then, you may not need your morning cup of coffee.
Fish Oil: Rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Fish oil strengthens skin’s barrier to keep moisture and irritants out. Also, it helps decrease inflammation and treats eczema.
Evening Primrose Oil: Omega-6 fatty acid helps skin make ceramindes to hold water effectively. This also treats eczema.
Poypodium Leucotomos (found in Heliocare pills): This is a fern extract that helps protect skin from UV damage and reduces redness after being out in the sun. Take this pill before you go out in the sun. And don’t forget sunscreen too.
Vitamin C: Antioxidant that makes collagen. Vitamin C is better absorbed when taken as a pill. Topical creams and serum are also available.

This post is so timely for me! I had heard something about CoQ 10 and was wondering if I should try it….sounds like I should :)!! And I love evening primrose oil…it’s been great for my skin.

Piper, I love COQ 10! I noticed my skin becomes smoother and it is also good for energy. I don’t need to drink an extra cup of coffee to wake me up in the morning. I will need to try evening primrose oil. Thanks for that!

+1 for Vitamin C. You notice a lot of high-end skin care products with it in the ingredient list. It’s funny to think how much cheaper it is to take it internally as a pill or (gasp) an orange.
