April is Wonder Month

Happy April or for those of you who are pranksters, Happy April Fool’s Day! Two weeks ago we celebrated Spring. Now, Spring is here and Easter is upon us.
April is Wonder month. Nature inspires wonder, whether it’s a lone bud in a vase or a herd of zebras thundering across the Serengeti. Even city dwellers can find a park to stroll in, Central Park for New Yorkers. Starry nights and storm-tossed seas (yes, the east coast has had enough rain in March) inspire poetic flights in the most prosaic hearts. A bird feathering its nest can rivet us for hours. Thunderclaps send shivers down the spine. Nature’s thrill is immediate: it’s always now in the elemental world.
Intention for April
In nature, I meet the eternal and find my place in the vast universe. Every star, every dewdrop, and I are kin.
Practice: Cloud-watching
I have cloud watched every since I was 9 years old. I used to stare out in the window and just stare at the clouds and watch them move and daydream about growing up.
For this exercise, you will want a sunny day and a blue sky full of puffy clouds. Find a place outside with an unobstructed view of the sky. Sit or lie so you can comfortably gaze upward. Watch the clouds scud across your field of vision. Don’t follow any particular cloud. Just let them appear, meld, and merge, then glide by. Appreciate their moment-to-moment beauty un an ever-changing world.
Project for April: Make a Green Collection
Humans are natural born collectors. We collect almost everything so why not nature. As long as we do not disturb the earth or harm any creatures. You may keep a notebook listing all of the different species of birds, butterflies, flowers, plants, or leaves. If you prefer, you may take pictures with your camera and make a pictorial guide to your collection.
